Depression has an impact on both physical & mental health

Support for depression through a whole-person approach

Depression affects the whole person

Mood disorders are far more common than most people realise. Depression is characterised by persistent low mood, difficulty managing everyday life, and a loss of interest in things that once brought pleasure. It also reaches far beyond mood โ€” negative thought patterns bring overwhelm, frustration, anger and sadness, while the body responds with pain, fatigue, insomnia and digestive complaints.

The gut connection

There is a well-established relationship between depression and chronic pain โ€” each can feed the other, and they often overlap. Modern research has also confirmed what many traditional systems have long understood: the gut is deeply involved in mood. Often called the "second brain", it is where a large proportion of your neurotransmitters โ€” including serotonin and dopamine โ€” are produced. When the balance of bacteria in the digestive tract is disturbed, mood can shift with it. Supporting the gut is therefore an essential part of working with depression.

Trauma, stress and hidden patterns

We also know that trauma and ongoing stress can set the stage for depression. Kinesiology is remarkably effective at uncovering those experiences and bringing awareness to how they have shaped your thought patterns, behaviours and beliefs. Simply seeing the pattern clearly is often the beginning of change.

The body keeps its own score

Stress and difficult emotions do not stay in the mind โ€” they are stored in the muscles and fascia. Targeted bodywork, including massage, stretching, spinal alignment and mobilisation, helps release that physical holding so the body can relax, move freely and feel lighter. When the body is at ease, exercise becomes more comfortable โ€” and even enjoyable โ€” which supports the whole recovery cycle.

You do not have to manage alone

Depression can make everything feel heavier, including the idea of asking for help. My approach brings together physiotherapy, kinesiology and gut health to support you from several directions. If this resonates with where you are, I would be glad to walk alongside you.
